"Protector" oil on board, 12x16"
Wednesday, April 29, 2009
This painting is from a little while ago. It is from a photo I took over 20 years ago on a trip with my Mom. I made her stop the car because the dog was so funny and patient, protecting his barn. I did paint today but it was a new color for the walls in my studio not an actual painting... I'm changing the color to show off work better and to brighten it up a bit for my show this weekend and next.

"Jack's Rooster" oil on board, 12x16"
at the Blue Heron Gallery
A neighbor of mine has a whole bunch of beautiful chickens and I stopped the other day to see if could take a few snapshots. I introduced myself and said I was a painter and asked if he would mind. He laughed and told me he was a painter too and then he added " But who isn't..." Vashon Island, an artist on every corner. I love living here.

"Juicebox Princess" oil on board, 18x24"
I think I am finished with this now but will have to sit with it for a while. I changed some of the overall colors in her face and dress to emphasize what I wanted to bring out more and put in more shadows. This is not cropped perfectly as the whole painting looks more like the first version. It's just a challenge to photograph them perfectly because I'm fighting with glare from my many windows...

"Heirlooms" oil on canvas, 22x28"
at the Blue Heron Gallery
This is the painting I was working on yesterday and finishing today. I have to say that the photo is not doing it justice. It has a lot more contrast and color in person. I will take more photos later when it can be moved. I want it to dry first. I bought a new color for this, which was really fun to add- cadmium orange. I'm still using a simple color palette of 7 basic colors and occasionally add 1 or 2 more. I like working on mixing from the basics.

"Summer Hay" oil on canvas, 11x14"
This is a painting I did a few months ago. This horse lives near me and loves a carrot over the fence. She looked so happy enjoying the late sun and plenty of grass. I'm in the middle of a really large tomato painting today and just couldn't finish. I hope to finish it tomorrow and post it.

"Cosmos and Clouds" oil on board, 12x16"
This is a second painting of cosmos from a series of photos I took last summer. In general, I have been painting from life on most days, but today the weather is not cooperating, so both paintings are from photos.
"Tulip Fields" oil on canvas, 6x6"
I may paint this again in a much larger format, but I thought I'd try it small first. I love old barns.

"Frosted" oil on board, 6x6"
I made cupcakes last night. What more can I say. I tried to paint some tulips today but struggled hard and then opted for the cupcake. I'm trying out a new type of board called Gessoboard as it has an immaculate surface. It's really nice. I'm going to use it for the small paintings for sure.

"Turquoise Bowl" oil on board, 9x12"
I bought this crazy bowl at a thrift store today and just had to paint it. I'm sure it will show up again in the future...
Recycled glass mailbox
This is my mosaic project That I've been spending a lot of time on lately. It is drying and awaiting grout. Somehow this took a lot of time.
