"American Pear"

"American Pear"
oil on canvas, 9x12"
$150 plus $10 shipping

This painting is from a little while ago as I have been swamped with framing for my show this week. Everything will be put up at the Blue Heron Gallery on Tuesday morning so I have been working really hard but have had little time to paint. "American Pear" is one of the few paintings I have done where I embellished what I was looking at on purpose. If we can "supersize" anything, why can't it be fruit?

"Peace Rose"

"Peace Rose"
oil on board, 18x24"
SOLD
I normally don't paint the same image twice but my first small study of this was so lovely (and sold right away) that I wanted to do an extra large version of it when I had the time. Here it is. I remember buying this peace rose maybe 5 years ago and being amazed at how radiant it was. In planting it in the ground we were putting a wish for peace out into the world... and now, even here in this painting, the wish still carries on.

Still fascinated with my neighbor chickens... These gals were extra puffy and fun to paint. I'm painting late tonight and will try to photograph these again tomorrow as my light is not so hot.

"Amy's Poppies"

"Amy's Poppies"
oil on board, 9x12"

These poppies are so great that I'm trying to capture them as many times as I can while I have them to paint from life. I love the blue shine coming in from my window catching a few edges here and there.

Thanks to my good friend Amy, I am now in possession of 5 enormous red oriental poppies from her garden. Just enough heat made them pop over night. Expect to see these for the next few days....

I painted this today as a part of a set of cupcake paintings. I liked the first one, so I decided to change it up with chocolate on the bottom and white frosting. Here is the first painting as well. Both are available and will be in  my upcoming show.

"Remembering Poppies"

"Remembering Poppies"
oil on canvas, 18x24"
at the Blue Heron Gallery

These gorgeous oriental poppies were in my yard at our old house. I remember waiting for them each year as I would see the new leaves unveiling themselves.  I hope to plant some more this year at our new place when I eventually have some time for gardening.

"Oriental Poppy Study"

"Oriental Poppy Study"
oil on board, 6x6" NFS

I actually did 2 paintings today too. One I can't show as it is a surprise and here is the other. It is a small study as I am considering painting this extra large.  This is painted on clayboard and it is definitely harder to soften edges as it dries so quickly. I will probably paint the large version on canvas as it gives itself well to softness for edges and color blending.

It's a 2 painting day!

Who knew I had time for 2 today...

"Afternoon Tomato"
oil on board, 5x7"
$75 plus $10 shipping

When in doubt- paint tomatoes...
I also painted a much larger version of a rooster that I first did about 3 weeks ago. I liked the first one so much that I wanted to try it larger and on a rectangular board.

"Pink Rose"

"Pink Rose" oil on board, 6x6"
SOLD
This painting is on a new surface for me. It's on clayboard which was very absorbent. It made for a surface that was easier to layer as it dried very quickly so I think this looks a little different than my other work. Fun to try something new.

"Sunlit Rose"

"Sunlit Rose" oil on board, 9x12"

I love trying to capture the light on flowers in the sun and the bright shadows. The colors in this flower were amazing in life. I hope I have captured them in paint.

I went to my friend Cissy's house today and she showed me her lovely paintings. Then she put up a beautiful still life and we both painted. I would have painted the whole scene but I had a smaller board and was drawn in by the sunflowers and pitcher. Can't wait til summer when they will be everywhere!

Studio Tour

Here is my cool 5 sided studio. All the walls lean outward 6 degrees. My show is tomorrow and Sunday and again next week Saturday and Sunday. Come check it out! I wanted to post paintings but have been immersed in framing and putting it all together. There is sure a lot of work behind the scenes. I will be back to the world of paint on Monday for sure...
