Trip

I'm in the middle of Wyoming and even though I had good intentions for painting on my trip, I realized that it is really time for a break. I have been painting hard every day for months. I will be back to it next week. Traveling is good to clear the mind
and to renew the spirit...

"Lilly"

"Lilly"
oil on board, 8x8"
collection of the artist

My smallest cat sat perfectly for this photo and I've been wanting to paint it for a while.  I softened this a bit around her nose after I took the photo so I will update the photo in the morning in good light. She is so sweet...

"Still Rose"

"Still Rose"
oil on board, 6x6"
SOLD

The rose I painted the other day is still beautiful so even though I had a crazy day of projects for my kids school and things to finish I still managed to get another small version of this done. I will repost the photo tomorrow in better lighting. I have trouble getting the true subtle colors in photos taken at night. (updated 6/17)

Butterfly Birdbath
NFS

This is my first formal attempt at PB & J's. I will be painting more as the subject is challenging and intriguing for me. It's such a lifesaver for those of us with kids...

The birdbath is a collaboration with the students in my daughter's class and will be permanently in the organic garden at her school. The multi-age classes take care of this garden and it is truly a special place.

Art Cat for VIPP

"Crazy Socks"
Acrylic on Fiberglass Cat
will be available at the Auction for VIPP in August.
(VIPP is Vashon Island Pet Protectors)

I've been working hard on my art cat this week and it is almost finished. Obviously this is in my other style which is influenced by the art of Oaxaca, Mexico. I painted a small oil painting today as well but is not worth posting here. It is a new subject for me and I want to work on it in better light so it will have to wait until tomorrow...

"Summer Feast"

"Summer Feast"
oil on board, 8x8"
SOLD
This is part of a new venture I love where a bunch of painters paint from the same photo and interpret in it their own way. The blog is called "Different Strokes from Different Folks" and is run by gifted artist Karin Jurick. They do a new challenge every 2 weeks and this is my first entry. I love to see what everyone paints.

Thank You

I just wanted to thank all of the people who came to my opening last night at the Blue Heron Gallery and to those who will continue to come and check out my work for the next month. I feel so grateful to be chosen as part of this show and for all of the support from the directors and staff at Vashon Allied Arts! It was a lovely event.

I tried to paint tonight after spending the day with my family but after feeling frustrated with too little light, I decided to leave it for tomorrow. I usually stick it out with a painting once I've started but my lemon and wedge was worth wiping off and starting fresh with more energy. I have committed myself to painting everyday but I have been working Really Hard lately and maybe this qualifies as my day off... Check back tomorrow for something new.

I still had the beautiful peach sitting in my studio and wanted a different setting...

"Half"

"Half"
 oil on board, 6x6"
$100 plus $10 shipping

I am really enjoying careful studies of light and shadow on some simple objects right now. I love the reflected light from the table on this avocado.

On another note - one of my paintings for the show opening this weekend at the Blue Heron Gallery is on the cover of our local paper the Vashon-Maury Beachcomber. Show opens Friday!
Come and join me at the opening event 6-9 pm with music and food...

New Era...

"Peach Corner"
6x6" oil on board
SOLD
My show is up at the Blue Heron gallery and there are 28 of my paintings up. And so a New Era begins on my blog. I will be posting prices with everything that goes up from now on and will be selling directly. Contact me for info or larger photos. Soon I hope to link these to paypal so you can buy right from here. Tomorrow I will put up standard prices for sizes and options for framing as well.
After days of framing and putting up the show, I got to paint again today. I had a beautiful peach and had to try to paint the softness and colors of it...
